George Gershwin was one of the twentieth-century American music’s most significant father figures and an important role model for many composers. «Rhapsody in Blue» is without doubt one of his most popular hits. With its electrifying opening – a deep trill from which the solo clarinet soars in a sensual glissando – it brings a jazzy diversity into the Auditorium. On this very «American» evening, which also features the «Symphonic Picture» from Gershwin’s landmark opera «Porgy and Bess» and his lively escape to the City of Light, «An American in Paris», multi-talented British musician Wayne Marshall will perform in «Rhapsody in Blue». Last but not least, the Tonkunstler Orchestra presents Bernsteins Symphonic Dances which have turned into a timeless classic on Broadway, in cinema and modern opera: «West Side Story».
