Summer Concerts 2020

The Summer Concerts take place from 27 June to 8 August 2020, always on a Saturday. The Grafenegg Academy Orchestra also gives two concerts on Sundays.

Grafenegg Festival 2020

The 14th Grafenegg Festival takes place from 14 August to 6 September 2020.

Between these dates, top international orchestras, outstanding artists and young musicians still in the process of securing their place among the stars will gather to present a varied festival programme. They play on the open-air stage Wolkenturm, in the Auditorium, the Riding School, the Castle and the Schlosspark of Grafenegg, thus bringing sound and scenery together in a unique way.

This year’s Composer in Residence is Konstantía Gourzí. She will compose two commissioned pieces for Grafenegg: in addition to the opening music «Messages from the Universe» she also contributes a Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra. She will write the concerto for the leading trumpeter Alison Balsom, who will premiere the work in Grafenegg. Moreover, Gourzí will lead the composer-conductor workshop INK STILL WET and meet the public in her composing room in the Garden Pavilion. Préludes, introductions, Late Night Sessions and Music in the Park complete the programme, which totals 15 evening concerts and four matinees.

One of the programme’s focuses in 2020 is the oeuvre of Ludwig van Beethoven in his 250th anniversary year. Right at the start, his masterful Missa solemnis for soloists, choir and orchestra is at the heart of the opening concert with the Tonkunstler Orchestra under its Music Director Yutaka Sado. Soprano Pretty Yende, mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey, tenor Klaus Florian Vogt and bass Jongmin Park – soloists from four continents – stand with the Arnold Schoenberg Choir on the stage of the Wolkenturm.

The exclusive concert pre-sale for holders of the GRAFENEGG-Card starts 6 November 2019. General ticket purchase starts 20 November 2019.
