Mozart, R. Strauss

Humanity and fellow-feeling come together. One of the most exciting of conductors meets one of the most un-diva-like opera divas: Antonio Pappano, director of London’s Royal Opera and maestro of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, is a man who likes to regale his audience with thrilling stories. Diana Damrau for her part is a soprano who does much more than sing her roles; she embodies them. She made her breakthrough with Mozart, drawing humanity, rage and reconciliation from his music. But Diana Damrau is no less a master of the «pocket opera», the art of singing lieder. In Grafenegg she will luxuriate in spheres of song by Richard Strauss. In the prelude, members of the Tonkunstler Orchestra perform «Tales and Dances from Old Vienna».

The concert programme on 27 August has changed. Instead of Lehár and J. Strauss various works by Mozart will be presented. Thank you for your understanding. Also, we are happy to announce that the Czech Philharmonic has kindly agreed to replace the Orchestra dell´Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia which regrettingly cannot attend the concert.

We are deeply shocked about the passing of Jiří Bělohlávek who was scheduled to conduct this concert. Tomáš Netopil will conduct the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in his stead.
