For decades, André Previn, Lorin Maazel and Mariss Jansons were the conductors who shaped the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Since 2009 the Austrian Manfred Honeck has been setting the tone with the renowned ensemble, to great acclaim. He presides over not one but two visits to the Wolkenturm by the musicians from Pennsylvania. At the start of the first evening, all eyes will be on a splendid yet enigmatic pianist: Hélène Grimaud plays the solo part in Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major. To conclude the concert we have great music theatre, arranged for orchestra. Manfred Honeck conducts a suite of his own creation based on «Elektra» by Richard Strauss.
