Joseph Haydn is considered one of the fathers of the string quartet, having helped launch the still-young genre and lending it its early lustre. Generations of chamber music ensembles have passed through his school; so too the French Quatuor Hanson, who have immersed themselves in Haydn's quartets with particular intensity and released a much-acclaimed CD devoted to them. In this alumni concert of the European Chamber Music Academy, which sets up camp in Grafenegg each year, this up-and-coming ensemble presents a sample of their absorption in Haydn, followed by Franz Schubert's magnificent String Quartet in G major, D 887.
