Introduction/abstract

Concerto de' Cavalieri · Marcello Di Lisa · Carolyn Sampson

When Faustina Bordoni took to the stage, the audience could hardly contain themselves. Today she’s considered the most important female vocalist of the first half of the 18th century. Her repertoire encompassed over 100 operas and numerous works by Johann Adolf Hasse – to whom she was also married – and George Frideric Handel. Equipped with her own immense voice, Carolyn Sampson comes to Grafenegg to follow in her footsteps to the baroque strongholds of Venice, Naples, London and Dresden. She’s accompanied by the Concerto de’ Cavalieri, currently one of Europe’s most exciting original-sound ensembles.
