Description

Andrè Schuen is one of the most celebrated stars of classical music on both on the opera stage and as an interpreter of song. He and his piano partner Daniel Heide focus on works by Johannes Brahms and Gustav Mahler in this emotional and captivating programme. In his late «Four Serious Songs», faced with the loss of those close to him and his own approaching end, Brahms wrestles with the inevitability of death. Only one power remains that in its own way can be stronger: love. This awareness also ripples through the songs based on texts from «Des Knaben Wunderhorn», in which Mahler cleverly plays with folksong idiom, drawing from it the deepest insights.
