Concentus Musicus WienDescription
This colourful morning concert with mezzo-soprano Patricia Nolz and the Concentus Musicus Wien under Stefan Gottfried takes you on a round trip through Europe's musical metropolises past and present. With the Symphony KV 297, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart satisfied the exacting expectations of the Parisian audience while at the same time ingeniously playing with them. Joseph Haydn wrote the vocal szena «Berenice, che fai?» in 1795 for a mysterious prima donna in London. And Mozart's «La Clemenza di Tito» was written in Prague in 1791 for the coronation of Emperor Leopold II. In the aria «Parto, ma tu ben mio», the basset clarinet also expresses Sesto's burning passion. Only Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 6 was written for and in Vienna: it is the astonishing work of a 20-year-old.
