Öffentliche Probe

Every evening is unique. Yet what ideally feels spontaneous and fresh to the audience is the result of intensely focused rehearsals. Music director Iván Fischer and the EUYO offer a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes: experience the creation of a very special version of Richard Strauss’s famous tone poem «Thus Spoke Zarathustra». There are no dancers on stage, but the orchestra itself: following an idea by Iván Fischer, the orchestra itself takes centre stage as the musical and philosophical protagonist of Strauss’s masterpiece. Liz Lerman, an icon of modern dance, developed this unique production in collaboration with conductor James Ross and choreographer Vincent Thomas. Freed from music stands and fixed positions, the musicians breathe new life into «Thus Spoke Zarathustra» in a dynamic and moving way: an orchestra that transcends itself – entirely in the spirit of Nietzsche and Strauss.
