Description
Fairy tales from Russia and China in orchestral splendor: with suites from Igor Stravinsky's «The Firebird» and Giacomo Puccini's «Turandot», the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra under Manfred Honeck makes the great emotions of ballet and opera sing and dance single-handedly. Max Bruch's first violin concerto is also full of cantilenas: the Hungarian-influenced finale alone would be reason enough for a celebrated young violinist like María Dueñas to devote herself to this piece. But John Adams opens by asking: «You know that feeling when someone offers you a test drive in a stunning sports car and you wish you hadn't accepted? » A near loss of control, transformed into music - with the orchestra as the high-performance engine.
