Matineen
Matineen in Grafenegg
Matinees have been held in Grafenegg since 2013. The venue for this concert series, scheduled for 11.00 am on the four festival Sundays, is the Auditorium, which is regarded as one of Austria’s finest concert halls in terms of acoustics.
In 2027, the Tonkünstler Orchestra, with Kian Soltani and Principal Conductor Fabien Gabel, will open the series on 15 August with «From the New World» . Steve Reich, the Composer in Residence for 2027, also hails from this «New World». His music takes centre stage at the matinee on 22 August, presented by his ideal interpreter, Colin Currie, and the Colin Currie Group, together with guitarist Bryce Dessner. Rudolf Buchbinder has been regarded for decades as the ideal interpreter of Ludwig van Beethoven’s piano sonatas; on 29 August, he will perform a matinee dedicated entirely to the composer who defined his life. In 2027, the music world will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of Beethoven, who made Vienna his home, with The Constellation Orchestra & Choir performing his Mass in C major under Sir John Eliot Gardiner. Before that, Isabelle Faust, one of the most outstanding violinists of our time, will take to the stage of the Auditorium with the violin concerto by another great Viennese by choice: Johannes Brahms.
