Subscription Romanticism
Conducting the London Symphony Orchestra, Sir Simon Rattle interprets a colourful programme culminating in Brahms’ Second Symphony. Fabio Luisi returns after 20 years to his old orchestra, the Tonkunstler Orchestra, to conduct Bruckner’s Ninth Symphony. Gianandrea Noseda leads the European Union Youth Orchestra in Berlioz’s «Symphonie fantastique», fantastic in every respect.

Subscription Russian Soul
Yuri Temirkanov is a legend among Russian conductors. Vladimir Jurowski, more than 30 years his junior, is well on the way to joining him – in addition to director roles in Moscow, Berlin and London, he is general music director in Munich. Both conductors introduce themselves at the Wolkenturm with «their» orchestras from Moscow. Sergey Dogadin is particularly sought-after among Russian instrumentalists. At Grafenegg he plays Brahms' glorious Violin Concerto.

Ensembles for whom the Wolkenturm and Auditorium have become a kind of living room: experience the European Union Youth Orchestra with Stéphane Denève (18 Aug.), the Tonkunstler Orchestra with Genia Kühmeier and works by Richard Strauss, Peter Ruzicka and Johannes Brahms (31 Aug.) and be there when festival director Rudolf Buchbinder offers his matinees with Brahms and Beethoven (8 Sep.).
Subscription Violin Magic
Julian Rachlin and Emmanuel Tjeknavorian are two virtuosos who have conquered the world from Vienna. Rachlin plays Mendelssohn’s melodious Concerto in E minor at the Wolkenturm while Tjeknavorian joins Rudolf Buchbinder and Harriet Krijgh to play the violin part in Beethoven’s Triple Concerto. Arabella Steinbacher comes to Grafenegg as soloist in Mozart’s last Violin Concerto,.

Are you an early bird? On the four Sunday matinees you can begin your day at the Grafenegg Festival with highlights from the Classical and Romantic repertoire. Choose three of the four concerts. The spectrum ranges from chamber music and Lieder to great symphonies, passionately interpreted by the European Union Youth Orchestra.

Never miss a good occasion to party. To mark Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday, selected works will be interpreted by outstanding performers in Grafenegg. Celebrate with us and treat yourself to a break from the everyday with Beethoven. Naturally, no Beethoven subscription could be complete without Rudolf Buchbinder. He can be heard twice: in the Piano Concertos 2-4 and, with Emmanuel Tjeknavorian and Harriet Krijgh, in the famous Triple Concerto.

From Mozart to Saint-Saëns to Gershwin: Experience the magic of piano music played by diverse artists. Alice Sara Ott and David Fray, both in their thirties, have played themselves into the hearts of audiences worldwide with their expressive interpretations. Rudolf Buchbinder, a benchmark for piano virtuosity for decades, has an opportunity to express his passion for jazz in Gershwin’s Concerto in F major.

Two great symphonic works with choir and soloists meet a reflective Lied programme that takes the audience through Europe’s Romantic music. With Beethovens «Missa Solemnis» the Grafenegg Festival celebrates its official opening; Mahler’s Second Symphony kicks of a visit from the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle. Finally, chamber singer Camilla Nylund joins Helmut Deutsch at the piano to uphold the Lied tradition.
